Flippa Ball/Waterpolo
Flippa Ball is a child friendly version of waterpolo (it has minor rule adjustments). Boys and girls play in composite teams. Games are played on a Sunday at the Millennium Institute of Sports, Mairangi Bay.
Newbies intro to Water Polo is for Year 2-3 students who are just starting out. Flippa Ball is for students Year 4-6 who are gaining confidence and skill with the modified game.
Flippa Ball gives the children the option of playing a ball sport in the water, though can only use one hand at a time. Children of all sizes love it and it is an easy way for children to become active. Flippa Ball helps children to understand how to play in a team so that different children with different skills can work together to achieve a goal. Passing, catching and the coordination required to do these things, are the basic building block for playing many ball sports.
Swimming is a core skill. Swimming is part of the activity and the better they swim, the better the children can play. Due to the varied depth of the pools, strong swimming skills are essential.
Newbies games are played on a Sunday at the Sir Owen Glen National Aquatic Centre, 17 Antares Place, Mairangi Bay. Flippa Ball games are played on a Sunday at the AUT Millennium, 17 Antares Place, Mairangi Bay.
